Islington Rogues and Radicals

Start: 11 am Angel tube (Northern line)

Finish: St John's Gate, ClerkenwellIRR

Duration: 2 hours

For dates see Calendar

No need to book, just turn up on the day!

Discover the radical history of this corner of London frequented by Tom Paine, William Morris and Lenin. Centuries of riot and revolt have made Clerkenwell a fascinating and unique area.

Hidden behind a Georgian square we will discover the New River Head and pass Sadler's Wells and the House of Detention - once a notorious prison and place of a celebrated escape!

For centuries, Islington and Clerkenwell was a monastic centre, and we will weave down a medieval passageway to visit the crypt of St John of Jerusalem. Tucked away is the historic well that gave the area its name.

Cost £7 (£6 concession)
